Updated Levee Condition Photos and How to Help
We want to make sure everyone understands how important it is for everyone to help push the City, DPW and the State for help on repairs and replacing our levee.
If you do not live along the river, you may not have seen the 15000+ sandbags that still line the top and around the levee base. I encourage you to take a ride along Ripple Road, 54th street and Riverview and just look from the street at what is patching the levee together at this time.
But beyond what we see from the town side, it is even worse on the river side. The pictures here, show how the flooding tore into the levee leaving deep gouges and undercutting the levee.
We as a town with limited funding are looking at what can be done as a community to make some repairs from the town side. But funds right now are very limited. The damage shown in the pictures is beyond what the town can tackle. We will continue to collect as much money through our GoFundMe and we are looking into all sources of funding.
The Community Emergency Response Team will meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, currently at the pavillion in Hohlt Park. We encourage people to attend to see how they can help us in the efforts to help the community and repair the levee. The meetings are from 7-7:45 PM.
DPW has publicly stated in the IBJ that "At this point, the city of Indianapolis has no jurisdiction to do
any work on that levee,” he said. “So, no, the city of Indianapolis is not doing anything with the levee.”
Please continue to email on a weekly basis the following people. Your town council will continue to work with The City, DPW. and the State for support. But we need everyone in Rocky Ripple and our friends from outside our community, to push leaders for the repairs and replacement of the levee.
